{"id":1798,"date":"2017-09-21T09:20:13","date_gmt":"2017-09-21T01:20:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/durhammontessori.ca\/?p=1798\/"},"modified":"2017-10-21T09:23:01","modified_gmt":"2017-10-21T01:23:01","slug":"sep-2017-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/durhammontessori.ca\/zh-hans\/2017\/09\/21\/sep-2017-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"Sep 2017 Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just a few updates and reminders\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Thanksgiving Food Drive<\/b><\/u><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Our Thanksgiving Food Drive was a success as always. \u00a0All your contributions were donated to COPE Mental Health Seniors Program and the residents in Mexico following the Earthquake. Thank you for helping families less fortunate than we are to have a Happy Thanksgiving and to support COPE feeding their clients 2 meals a day.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks for your generous contributions to help the Richer family. \u00a0To date we have raised $1,931.75. \u00a0The next dress down day is Friday, October 13<sup>th<\/sup>. \u00a0It is $5.00 per person and all the donations will be going to the Richer Family. \u00a0It is encouraged that the students and staff wear blue as that was Mr. Richer\u2019s favourite colour.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Program Enhancement <\/b><\/u><\/strong>\u2013 On Wednesday, September 13<sup>th<\/sup>, Live Love Life Music visited our school for the Casa 2 and Casa 3 children. \u00a0This was a very successful and engaging program. On Wednesday, September 20th, Craft Corner visited our school for the Casa 1 students. \u00a0The students had a fun-filled morning making a craft which gave them an opportunity to use their fine motor skills and be creative. On Wednesday, October 4<sup>th<\/sup>, Live Love Life Music was here visiting the grades 1-3 in the gymnasium. \u00a0They thoroughly enjoyed this program. \u00a0On Wednesday, October 11<sup>th<\/sup>, Live Love Life Music will be visiting the school for grades 4 to 8.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Program Enhancement <\/b><\/u><\/strong>\u2013 On Wednesday, September 13<sup>th<\/sup>, the grade 7\/8 students enjoyed Tree Trekking\/Zip lining with the grade 9 students from Durham Academy. \u00a0This was a wonderful day.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Program Enhancement<\/b><\/u><\/strong>\u2013 As in previous years, librarians from the Oshawa Library has begun their visits to our Casa 1 to Grade 8 classrooms. \u00a0These visits enhance our current curriculum and the visits are a welcome change for our students.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Picture Day <\/b><\/u><\/strong>\u2013 Picture day was Friday, September 22<sup>nd<\/sup>. \u00a0Pictures have just been distributed and are due back by October 18th. \u00a0Just a reminder\u2026.the proofs are to be returned to the school regardless of whether you are placing an order or planning a re-take. \u00a0Thank you.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Picture Re-Take Day<\/b><\/u><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Picture re-take day is <strong><b>Friday, November 3rd. \u00a0<\/b><\/strong>If you would like a re-take of your child\u2019s individual picture, please let the office know. \u00a0If you missed picture day, this is your opportunity to have your child\u2019s picture taken.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Immunization- <\/b><\/u><\/strong>Grade 7\/8 immunizations were on <strong><b>Thursday, October 5<\/b><\/strong><strong><sup><b>th<\/b><\/sup><\/strong><strong><b>.<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Permission forms were sent home for completion prior to this date.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Track and Field \u2013<\/b><\/u><\/strong>\u00a0Track and Field\/Cross Country for grades 2 to 8 will be on <strong><b>Thursday, October 19<\/b><\/strong><strong><sup><b>th<\/b><\/sup><\/strong>. \u00a0The bus will be leaving at 9:00 a.m. sharp and returning to the school at approximately 2:30 p.m. \u00a0The students will be going to Alex Robertson Park in Pickering. \u00a0Please have your children dress in their gym uniform and in layers (if necessary) to keep warm. \u00a0Please pack snacks, a lunch and water. \u00a0Please note: \u00a0If it is pouring rain we will <strong><b>NOT<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0be attending.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Discovery Night <\/b><\/u><\/strong>\u2013 Discovery Night is <strong><b>Wednesday, October 25<\/b><\/strong><strong><sup><b>th<\/b><\/sup><\/strong>from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. for Casa 1 to Grade 8. \u00a0The students work very hard to prepare and impress you. \u00a0Please plan to attend. \u00a0Grades 1-8 will need to be in their full uniform. \u00a0This gives our students a sense of pride to present their accomplishments. \u00a0It also gives them the foundation and confidence for public speaking which is why attendance is mandatory. \u00a0Please feel free to invite family and friends.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Durham Academy &#8211; <\/b><\/u><\/strong>On Monday, October 30<sup>th<\/sup>, the grade 7\/8 class will be visiting Durham Academy. \u00a0The students will have the opportunity to listen to a guest speaker, hear presentations from the grade 9 class and participate in a soccer\/basketball tournament. \u00a0\u00a0The bus will be leaving Durham Elementary at 9:00 a.m. and returning at approximately 2:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Halloween<\/b><\/u><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 All of our students are invited to wear their costumes to our assembly on <strong><b>Tuesday, October 31<\/b><\/strong><strong><sup><b>st<\/b><\/sup><\/strong><strong><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/strong>in the gym. \u00a0Following our Assembly we will have our parade in the gym. \u00a0After assembly, the students will remove their costumes (approximately 9:40 a.m.) and continue on with their day in their school uniform. \u00a0Please note that no offensive or inappropriate costumes are allowed. \u00a0If you are planning to bring in treats for your child\u2019s class they <strong><b>MUST be NUT FREE<\/b><\/strong>. \u00a0Treats will be distributed at the end of the day to be consumed off site. \u00a0Please refrain from sending treats for snacks and lunches after Halloween. \u00a0Thank you for your support and cooperation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><b>Safe Arrival &#8211; <\/b><\/u><\/strong>A safe arrival program is a system of procedures that are carried out in conjunction with daily school attendance taking. \u00a0Parents are responsible for their children\u2019s safety. \u00a0Safe-arrival programs are a mechanism that parent and schools can use to account for any students unexplained failure to arrive at school. \u00a0In order to promote safety of our students, our school has policies and procedures in place for the safe-arrival program and has done so for 33 years.<\/p>\n<p>Just a reminder\u2026..please do not bring <strong><b>Tim Horton\u2019s Donuts or Timbits<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0into the school. \u00a0They <strong><b>may contain NUTS. \u00a0<\/b><\/strong>Thank you.<\/p>\n<p>Autumn is here and winter is on the way! \u00a0I know it\u2019s hard to believe with the great weather we have been having. \u00a0Please insure that your children have appropriate outdoor clothing e.g. jacket, hat, gloves, scarf and boots etc. \u00a0Students remain inside for recess due to inclement weather or extreme temperatures only.<\/p>\n<p>Reminder\u2026..bracelets\/necklaces are not part of the school uniform. \u00a0Please refrain from wearing them. \u00a0Save them for our \u201cDress Down\u201d day! \u00a0A reminder for our lovely girls! \u00a0As stated in our handbook \u201cGirls must wear their hair back off their face, with proper color coordinated hair accessories. \u00a0Makeup and nail polish is not permitted.\u201d \u00a0Thank you for your cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>If you get a chance check us out on Facebook! \u00a0Reminders are posted on our Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>In closing, thank you for your continued support and cooperation. \u00a0Please come by the office anytime if you have any questions\/concerns. \u00a0Our door is always open!<\/p>\n<p>Until next time\u2026\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Suzanna Mason<\/p>\n<p>Principal<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Just a few updates and reminders\u2026\u2026\u2026\r\n\r\nThanksgiving Food Drive \u2013 Our Thanksgiving Food Drive was a success as always.
